March 23: Day 11

Happy Easter

Well Brett can’t do dishes anymore, lucky him! He says the wound feels fine and when we checked it there was no sign of infection. Changed the bandage. I decided to do some cooking and baking to make the boat merry and fun after the trauma that was yesterday. Brett felt bad about not being able to do the dishes and cleaned the boat. I put together a candy hunt for him. (He does not know where the candy is, if he did it would all be gone. But Easter is a good excuse to break out the candy and have a little fun.) It really sucks getting hurt out here and it makes us both realize how vulnerable we are.

I was coming up from the Easter Hunt when I found a six inch squid in the cockpit, the little bugger had jumped clear over the railing and the cushions, landed in the middle and inked all over the floor. It was still gasping for breath and I was able to get it in the water before it died. Whew. The sea life was out in force for Easter, when Brett and I were in the cockpit (it was closed off since there was a ton of spray) later that night there was a series of thumps on the enclosure. When I opened it up and looked outside there were at least 8 flying fish flipping around on the deck. It was a challenge getting all those bugger back in as they flopped around, they are so slimy! It was gross. No casualties.
