Naomi, “My artistic journey started with painting and sculpture. After that I explored from there. No matter what medium I worked with I felt the urge to surround myself with beauty…. In the end that is why I ended up revolving my artistic expression around wearable and functional pieces that could be incorporated into daily life.”
Drawing much of her inspiration from nature and her world travels, her one-of-a-kind pieces are a blend of natural textures, color and semiprecious stone.
Naomi, “Because I have such a deep respect for nature and the balance found there I prefer natural, bio-degradable, non toxic design elements whenever possible. My style of design uses the original spirit, or energy of the elements it was created from and evolves those elements into something more…. It’s like a combination between me and my medium when I am being creative.”
Naomi is a passionate environmentalist. The ecological footprint of her design is an important part of the evolution of her personal style.
Naomi, “There is so much waste in the world and ultimately I want to make things that are beautiful and, whenever possible, ecologically responsible. I like to incorporate up-cycled goods like leather, semiprecious stones and beads from old clothes. One of my favorite neck collars was crafted from the soft leather of an old couch, the beads off of a torn pillow and all the random, broken chains I had collected in my jewelry box. This is when I feel the best about my art: when I can take something that was about to be trash and really make it beautiful and precious… I think that is the journey of the artists of the future, to transform trash into treasure.”
With a keen eye for detail, her art transports the wearer to other worlds that seem both past and future. Blending fantasy with inspiration from tribal cultures and her particular type of whimsy, each piece is unique and special.
